What is more desirable with canines and why? What type of lure elicits each response?

Normally I associate rubbing on an elevated object and rolling as something done on the ground. Ive heard talk about a rub set for coyotes numerous times and my though was if its effective that would be great because if hes rubbing on something I know exactly where his feet will be to catch him. I set up cameras on a couple of test rub sets to see how it would work. Long story short it didn't work very well. I might of caught a coyote or two if id had a trap there but more coyotes wouldn't commit than those that worked the set. And the majority acted flat out spooked by a lure being 12" up off the ground. The positive about a formulation that will make them roll is that means it has a whole lot of attraction to them. The downside is if they try to roll on it before they get caught they might roll on the trap and fire it without being caught. Just got to know how to use a formulation with that much attraction properly.

Rubbing or rolling sounds good to me…

My answer is what I think you’re asking, if they roll there’s a good chance their back is going to trip the trap, if they’re rubbing you have a better chance to catch them but could have the same results, rotten smell can get a roll.
