I just use heavy nylon string and hang by one foot.

I have a chain one I bought for my daughter to hold rabbits it works well enough can make things slow but never been a big numbers guy. Before that I just used a rope wrapped around the leg.

But im a use what's around guy lost my deer hangers when we moved so the last 9 years I just used an ax or maul through the tenders and clove hitch arounf the middle or hooking a chain fall through one of the tenders and hand it from one side. Im to cheat to buy what is available when I can make much nicer out of higher quality materials. But I never get around to it.

You could put the base with the clamps in a 5 gallon bucket and fill it with quickrete....works well for me and you can move it out of the way after the season is over.

Old thread, but RTS Speed Gambrels are back in stock. Found a good source for plates. Most stocking dealers should have inventory by the end of the month. I know Allen at Hilltop Outdoors already got his order.

Thanks!

I use cable loops to hang my critters. I have 10 pair, I have all my critters pre set up. I like to hang my critters by one leg to do the opening cuts.

I used the Model with rings and dog chain on bottom for several.years but went to cable loops after having lower chain came apart twice. Both times it broke while winching stubborn pelts off coyotes. It worked good for everything else. If I were to go back to skinning coyotes again I will invest in the RTS gambrel.

I use an old snare that doesn’t have a deer stop on it…
I have a few of them… one I keep with me rolled up inside a little bag that peg made me that has my skinning equipment that I use when I skin in the field.
I prefer skinning in the field because I don’t like to handle the carcasses more than I have to.
I hang the coon up by one back leg , make the opening cut… then I use a sharpening steel to to pop the legs and then the tail… just a little system I came up with by watching a few different guys over the years and mush mashed my own technique.

I bought my skinning machine when ADC was still making them. I sure wouldn't be without it today!

ADC,
I still enjoy watching that video.

I grew up behind coon hounds in the 70's and 80's. We skinned in the woods because hides weigh less than big coon. I still have the dog choke collar I used to carry and it holds everything from mink to 60 pound beaver to this day. You can even choke around the hips of an animal if need be. I have even flipped a critter upside down by choking around the hide, so blood runs down the carcass as I taxidermy skin out a head, makes it easier to see what you are doing.

I know the OP asked about a gambrel but I think everyone should have a quality choke chain collar on hand in their skinning gear.

I use the one ADC posted and it works great!! I can’t recommend it enough for coon, fox, and coyote. Depending on the width of what you have and if it’s anything like mine, it leaves a bit to be desired on otter. They seem to have a hard time spreading their legs wide enough to stay hooked up. I made a double sided snare to hook the legs and loop across the gamble for that.

Was going to post the same video he did. Of himself. Lol

It’s deer hunting, not deer passing.
