I keep thinking about catching a bunch of flying squirrels and making a pair of underwear for just such an occasion. They would be warm and soft.

Ben there, done that and you can only walk North. Turning around was impossible for me but you would likely have more success.

Supposed to be colder than a cast iron toilet seat on the shady side of an iceberg here this weekend. I think I'll just stay inside best I can.

Heck....Savell might be able to do some mushing.

That would be getting pulled by a rope ..tied to the bumper of

A truck...sitting on the lid of a trash can.

Drunker than a fart ...of course

Nessy, what a nice hat. Reminded me of mine too.

I think a good thick beaver hat is among the warmest there is. I took mine to AK out on JR's line tour in some very sub zero standing and wind chill temps on the snow machine, and I was fine.

A young man going to college out of N. Idaho made it. He used to be on the forum here. Dakota was his name. Very polite and when we met he showed me a fine fox hat among others . All were well made. I wish sometimes I knew how to contact him to tell him how well his hat saved me in cold wind.

Stay safe in that big storm thats coming this week.

Beaver fur is considered "masculine" in our fur garment industry.

I used to have a really nice ushanka-type hat with the top made of a black beaver kit and the flaps and front of slightly unprime Tobol sable, grayish-brown with nice contrasting dorsal stripes. It was actually too warm for me so I rarely wore it except when it was below -20F. My ex got to keep it when I left him, he's a bald guy and has more use for it smile

I prefer big fur hoods, my fur coats have wolverine or sable hoods and I generally don't even need a hat when I wear a fur coat.

My son has a nice beaver vest made of beavers that I trapped around here.

Tatiana, thank you for your neat info . I never considered types of fur to be described as masculine. Does that mean the texture , toughness of hide ? Or the animal considered ? In that case, I would guess the wolverine definitely is masculine.

Your beaver/sable hat sounded beautiful.I hope you have a photo of it for memory. I made sure my marten hat was showing the nice dorsal lines and colours for contrast, also . Which was easy to do since I bought my marten from T4Ever. I think he gets among the best on earth , from what I've seen so far.

Your vest looks gorgeous. He will never be cold and will always cherish it from his mother.

I have a crop top coat I designed and had made from blanket and super blanket beaver , under ice caught and rich in thick prime fur. Deep dark chocolate . I had the hides sheared and hand plucked , and the furrier, a well experienced sewer from Greece out of New York, made it into sheer art. With enough left over for a long scarf and ear muffs. I hand sewed the other scraps (and the four heads) into a nice lap blanket that I enjoy today. Nothing was wasted.

To top off my hat collection, I'd love to have a hat made from a nice wolverine, with the diamond positioned just the way I see in my mind's eye . Maybe even including the tail, the same idea as my marten hat with three tails in back on the crown. If wolverine wasn't warm enough , I know you wouldn't have it as a hood on your coat. I see not a few others with wolverine ruffs too.
