This is where the local fur buyer is sorely missed. Time was the local fur buyer would help a newcomer getting started.

He’s trapped for several years but he’s never had the desire to put up anything that I’ve ever heard of I’d like to help him but I’m running long days already. I just don’t have the time I finally got to sit down Monday night at 9PM then I got up to help a neighbor move wood the next morning it was the only day he had to do it.

First part of your post I'm thinking to myself that this is a great opportunity to educate someone and help our our crew. Then I kept reading and it's a bit of a bummer. If he's not willing or wanting to learn maybe he can find someone in the area who will buy them green?

How hard is it to skin anything? we all learned by doing, nowadays a quick internet search will give you instructions with pictures....you said he's been trapping a couple years, he's never skinned anything? what does he do with his catches?.... just sounds strange....

What’s strange he sells out of his freezer like a lot of folks do that don’t put up fur.

I stopped by the dad’s shop to see what they did with the beaver knowing there was no better option for them. He was not in the office the lady said they took it to a taxidermist in the next town over. Not sure what that will accomplish but it’s not my problem he’s just paying a lot more for a longer wait. It’s just stupid but some people today don’t understand the word no or wait. LOL

I think I’d rather do several than just one at a time any day.

The set up and clean up is virtually the same. I'd rather skin more than less too. The same goes for cleaning fish or butchering anything small.

He’s not a bad trapper he just has little interest in fur put up not like I wouldn’t help him if he was interested in it.

I have a Mister chore boy hat.

Adjust traps, add swivels, check
Dye n wax, ok
Help with fur, yeah you skin n
freeze and I'll help when I have time.

He'd call every few days with sit rep.
He saw mink tracks and I coached over the phone.
Worst weather/busy day he got the mink.
Wanted me to skin and prep for tam so
he didn't mess it up, his first.
Sure why not.

Last week I went to his funeral.
That mink was right there beside the signing book.
I about choked.
Glad I helped.

I had a buddy just like that, no regrets helping him with everything I did for him. May he rest in peace.

I'd have skinned and fleshed that beaver and gave him the carcass too, that 20 minutes of labor would likely be repaid triple in good karma.

That boy is 20 some years old and not willing to pick up a knife or bother to learn I’ll sleep like a baby tonight! He’s got a heated shop I don’t at the moment give it a rest.
