LPG boils at -44 F so below that temp it will not vaporize or transform to a gas. Especially if your tank is less than full. Bic style lighters jus hold in a closed fist for a few minutes and they usually fire right up. Zippo style lighters always work if you have fluid.

GUK.....it's the sound they make when they hit the end of the cable

We don't get as cold as your area TD but warming a Bic lighter in your hand works. In single digit temps my gas grill won't light but my blue-flame heater in the shop will. I think it's something with the regulators.

Eh...wot?

Roy, how cold does the actual temperature get up there? The coldest I ever remember here was -8F. We have a 0F, -2F, -4F and a 3F in our forecast, which is very cold for us. Those are night time temperatures.

lighters don't work in the cold. I've convinced myself that its b/c of the liquid / gas in the lighter. When its really cold it more liquidy and if you warm it up in your hand for a minute and shake it up I think it gets more gassy and lights but thats just how I picture it in my head.

Several years ago there was a thread about starting survival kits to carry on you and someone argued having a lighter was stupid which seemed odd but now I understand why they were saying that... heating a lighter up in a survival situation may prove difficult. Thinking about that I wonder how a mini lighter would do if you popped it in your mouth in a wet cold and freezing situation.

i.e. the discussion was what could you pack a cleaned used dip can with with for emergency fire starting... vaseline, cotton balls, mini lighter, all weather matches... etc.

Gotta warm the lighter in your hands……or like you used, matches. The good cold weather torches use MAPP.

When it's that cold you are typically dressed in layers so a tee-shirt pocket is a good spot to keep a lighter
Back when I took survival training I was taught to keep my lighter in the bottom of the flap in the front of my tighty whities.

Just packed the boiler and walked the dogs so I can enjoy my coffee in a bit it’s down hill from here for the extended forecast. Here it’s the wind that’s the biggest issue cuts to the bone,

Yup, warm bic lighter in your hand. I always pull the child safety band off the roller with needle nose. Makes it easier on thumb and spins faster. Having a mapp gas bottle (the yellow one) on a torch helps you get a flame in cold weather. I just tie a sparker right to torch head so it’s always there. You can warm up a regulator with torch if your carful. Don’t hit it with direct flame, just warm it.

Some appliances that use regulators freeze up because there is moisture in the system that freezes.
