Are the 650 with locking jaws hard to set? Do they bed better than other traps?

Here are a few things you might consider before switching traps SH..

The two coil MB 550 has more than enough strength to hold any coyote.
When you take off the helper springs the 550”s pan tension will drop to 3 - 3.5 pounds give or take.
I have found that to be an excellent pan pressure for coyotes. They are very easy to set two coiled
.
If you want easy on the paws, the MB 550 OS is by far the best trap.
Its offset jaws, high lockup, and light weight are the primary reasons I believe.
They bed super solid with little bed prep or trap adjustment.

Keeping your concerns in mind, I really think you would be best served by sticking with the two coil
MB 550 OS.

Good Luck Stinky!

Thanks Tejas
I have been using off set jaws on the 550. I have had a couple of traps pop up slow when I pulled my traps. I'm sure it was my fault when I bedded them. But thought 4 coil might fix that for me. Think my next traps will be 2 coil like I started with. Thanks SH

The 650s bed nice, they hold extremely well and as 3togo says, if you go with the cast jaw version they won't cause much if any foot damage. Personally I don't care for the design of both jaws locked down where you always have to work inside the jaws instead of being able to reach under the loose jaw.

If you are looking for something that is easier to set than 4 coil 550, the mb 650 is NOT it.

Yes sir, I agree!! My next traps will be two coil. I really wanted the 650's but I think the two coil will be better for me. Thanks SH
