I have been. Trapping for 20 yrs
The last 5 yrs I have been catching lots of females . Like 1male to 15 females. I use 80 percent flat sets, to 20 percent dirt hole. My center of pan is 6 to 7 inches past the lip of the dirt hole and same distance away from my peepost. I use ogorman lure. I put a shot of urine, coyote gland lure. And then a random lure from my bag. I feel like that's to many females. Love to hear any thoughts.

Mark June gave and explanation in one of his videos as to why this would happen. I can't remember exactly how he put it but maybe someone else will chime in as to what he said. It had to do with which gender was affected by possible disease or high mortality rate. I may have get the video back out so I can relate what he said.

This is a great topic for discussion Steve.

I would like to hear the age class breakdown of the females if you recorded it.

I am looking forward to seeing what the veteran coyote men have to say on this subject.

I keep pretty close track and my kill ratio holds real close to 50/50.

But, I definitely see periods where I kill a majority of one sex or the other, wait a few weeks and it goes the other way. Not at all uncommon to go through an area one check and have 80-90% females, than do the opposite a few weeks later.

One day a couple springs ago I killed 15 in one day, all female.

As for disease picking on one sex over another, parvo is especially hard on pups and lactating females as they’re more susceptible to the main killer, dehydration.

That would be this year. I have 29 that are males and only 13 that are female. Couple years back the percentage was even more for male

i few years i have caught ratios of 75% one sex over another talked to a biologist about it once and he said in general they have 50/50 for pups and the only thing is that he could come up with is that maybe a population upswing except coyotes pick a mate for life and the male helps raise the young very seldom does the female raise young by herself and chase the male away but maybe on an upswing/downswing of population they produce 60/40 so if one area has lots of feed a female may produce more pups and a neighboring area may produce more males
