For years I have used turbotax but i refuse to buy a new computer just so I can run their newest program.

Anyone have any reviews of the other brands of Tax prep software ? pros & cons .

I just go to the local library and get the printed forms I need. I always send my return certified mail so they gotta sign to get it. Costs a bit more but I always get my return ASAP. That’s turbo tax for me!

The IRS is not accepting e-filed returns until January 26. They are also way behind in issuing final versions of many forms due to Congress changing tax law in July and then having a long government shutdown, so all the tax software companies also got a late start and are behind their normal schedules. Depending on what other forms are in your return, you may not be able to e-file for a few weeks even if you are able to prepare it earlier.

Mine is closer to 500 there. Gets more expensive the more complex you get. My daughter's are low like that. I typically take her info in when we do ours and pay for hers as well. Hers is a basic w2 and some school credits vs ours with business/farm . We have me a good tax lady. She meet with us before the end of the year so I could see what tax bracket I would end up in after all the deductions, increased credits and overtime tax credit. Glad she did ended up in a lowere tax bracket by a lot so rolled some traditional stock over into my roth account. Will reduce my return but greatly lower my future tax liability.

Right you are Snowy but I never E-file. Always a paper return. I was already leaning towards the H&R product and was looking for some positive reinforcement.

Can any of you H&R users compare it to Turbotax ??

How robust is the investment portion of the software? Will it handle K-1 information ?

I thought about that but after reading the reviews of that product I decided it was not a viable option.

I like having the software resident on my hard drive in case i need to re-do something for that same year at some point in the future.

Thanks all !!

The accountant I had in Anchorage would not e-file for any of his clients. He did not even have his tax prep computer connected to the internet!
