The question was about how to heat a home, not how to keep your body warm. Good info on how to stay warm to stay alive, but if she can't afford a K heater and a couple of gallons to fuel it, she is in serious financial trouble. I've had the same K heater shown above for more than 20 years. That's $8/year. One plus is you can heat food on it too.

One note about the weather forecast. Earlier in the week we were forecast to get 16" of snow between Sat and Sun and now it is "up to 3 inches."

Maybe it's my generation and growing up where tornados were a thing but keeping a few essentials light kerosene lanterns/heaters, coleman stoves, a chainsaw and fuel, etc was just common sense. Heck, I've got half a dozen coleman stoves here.

Several candles will bring up the temp of a small room.

Another play on the alcohol heater is a better coffee can if you can find one. Tp acts as the wick. The large ones you put 3 rolls of toilet paper in. Small a single roll. Just top the can off

Bit of an over-kill, but we have a mobile furnace on a trailer. Complete set-up with furnace, generator, and LP tank. We do select demolition and and many of the buildings the guys work in has no heat. Can run 24" flex pipe out from it. Can park the trailer next to a building and fire it up. Could easily modify duct vents to sit in a window much like a window A/C and blow hot air into a house

Our houses aren't as well sealed as northern houses. Dress warmly in layers with head covering, we call it a toboggan or just boggan, and gloves. Sleep with head covered. Close up unused areas of the home. If she has candles or a kerosene lantern she can use them if she closes up the room. They can put out small amounts of heat for small areas though as in all thing flame there's both fire and carbon monoxide dangers.

I know it's hard to describe but as someone once winter trained in the snows of germany I came to realize cold is very survivable if dry and enough layers. Speaking of dry, wool is the best next to skin layer as it wicks while cotton soaks. Synthetics if wool not available.

She should also try to up her caloric intake as the body burns calories to generate heat and to stay hydrated as you don't get thirsty like you do when sweating in the heat of summer.

Depending on area many of our localities are setting up warming stations available to all.

What part of the state is she in?

Savanna.

Some very good information here,,, I’ll pass it along to her.

we've lost power and own about 6 Aladdin lamps and they kick some serious heat 2 in bedroom will keep you warm no problem. For heating and cooking the vesta indoor space heater and stove the heat will propel a fan to blow heat and you just take the top off for a mini cooker cost 139.00. This allows you to get thru a few days as long as you buy sterno style gel cans vesta sells their own cans which last 4-6 hours.
