Long story short....loaned my generator to a family member last summer

Worked perfectly even to the day he took it from my porch

He brought it back a week later, I didn't think much on it

Got it out a couple of days ago before the storm....it won't crank at all

Got really upset or (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) to say the least, it worked great before ????

Still can't get it to fire, but did notice several springs laying loose

I am not one to judge, but I will never loan out my equipment to

anyone ever again,

Yep now that you need one, you don't have one. If you were close you could use one of mine and I know you would take care of it.

I know an old fella that couldn't get his generator running. Changed the plug, cleaned the carb, new oil, new air cleaner, fresh gas, and still no spark. Few days later when looking at it in disgust he noticed a little red switch in the off position..... Fired up on the first pull...

This is why I won't borrow stuff. I bring it back still working fine and they leave it set around 6+ months and who knows what can happen to it, then they'll blame me when they finally use it and something goes wrong.

Yep cheap gas ruins the carb's in anything now days, even the non ethanol stuff isn't fully non ethanol and will gum them up too if they sit too long.

I never made a habit of loaning anything out, see how other's that do get treated so just skip that part.

On my gas stuff that sits for long periods I drain the tank and run them until they quit to empty the lines and carb. Seems to work.

Yup!

I clean the carb on mine every Spring. Gas sitting in it all winter gums up the jet and needs to be cleaned out.

I never have any problems just using good quality gas and a fuel stabilizer.

I loaned a lawn mower to a buddy quite a few years ago. Found it sitting by my back door with a plastic bag of motor parts sitting on top of it. Learned my lesson.

I had a neighbor that needed a chainsaw. I had a cheap Poland saw that worked most of the time. I gave it to him under one condition. He could never return it to me.

I had a power washer that a friend borrowed and he decided to service the carburator. He put it back together but the linkage and a spring are wrong. He never said a word until I mentioned it to him a week later.

I also don’t like to loan a tool.

I loaned my meat grinder to one of the guys in my deer hunting group. He's family. Did that for a couple of years with no problems. Then I loaned it out to him one year and it didn't come back. I finally texted him and told him I needed it back. He brought it back when I was gone to work. The first time I went to use it, I found the blade had a tip broken off, a gouge in the auger and a gouge in the housing. I imagine he or one of his kids dropped a bone or a slug into it. Stuff happens but man up and tell me about it. I texted him and he didn't reply. He sent $20 with no note. I returned the money and decided to never loan it out again. The following year, he wanted to borrow it. I told him that someone else was using it. He hasn't asked again.

He showed up at deer camp with 3 of his kids this year. We always try to figure out the first morning how many deer we need because we always have extra tags due to landowner tags. When he was asked, he said he didn't want any. His sister asked what he was doing there if he didn't want any deer. He didn't have anything to say. Two of his kids ended up shooting deer and he ended up taking them. I didn't understand why he thought it was okay to fill other people's tags instead of letting them shoot their own deer.

I suppose I need to clarify a couple things

First off my generator is propane powered

I bought it 15 years ago, never took it out of the box

Few years back my father in law was in trouble, hurricane sanity

I loaded the truck with the new in the box generator and 6 tanks of propane

Got there , unboxed it , and it run like a dream

Probably put 50 hours on it

Got it back home and used it once since for maybe a hour

I started it when my sil come to get it, showed him how to operate it

Started as always on the 2nd pull, first pull popped and 2nd fired it up

That was just a couple months ago

My bad of course, when I got it back a week later, I just put it away

Having a generator for freezers and fridges during a hurricane

is important, I ain't worried about any of this now

Crap with highs in the 20s, my freezers in the shed won't even run

We will be fine generator wise, still makes me mad tho

Borrow something, bring it back with springs and hoses

disconnected, puts a major fire up my tush
