Does anybody use surveyor flags to locate coyote traps in a field with deep snow. Will they spook coyotes and how close to the set could I use them.

I use flagging ribbon tied to a limb or fence wire in the general area. With talk of snow and wind all the time I snapped my sets long while back so not having to deal with it.

Got one site that gets mowed regular and I was asked to mark the sets. Used 3/8 fiberglass rods, muskrat rods, near the sets and didn't notice any refusals due to it.

Get the cheapest metal detector you can find. Work great for finding traps under snow the critters dont get into

I never flag anything right where it’s at that’s like a “Steal Me “ sign find one the find more. On the rare occasions I need to flag I use the best pattern for the layout like the opposite side of the road, deeper behind a set or a preset distance away from the set to pace off. Flagging is risky most every set goes where I’d set at if it was the first time I was there.

Snares on the other hand in thick cover I flag them closer heck I’ve got 100s in buckets have at a few I’m not out nothing much really.
