How much coin do the real trappers make? Like Marty and others of that ilk. Does their life go to crap when fur prices dive.

The vast majority of them have other sources of revenue they can fall back on if need be.

Whats a "real trapper"?

Is a real trapper one who does year round Predator control full time?
Or how about the guy that buys a new truck every other year with his very much part time control work
Or those that have a bait and lure business?
Or Supply house
Stream or Televised showed
You tuber channels or traps and buys fur,,
or traps and sells a trapping product

A chosen lifestyle: money isnt isnt always the point

I know plenty of "real trappers" by MY definition, which is someone who can catch consistently

No idea what they make off of trapping but fairly certain none of the ones I know rely on trapping income alone.

Back in the 70s boom years yes you could trap full time from fall to spring then have a summer gig/gigs only because everything had a good value and supplies were flying off the shelves. Start with fall land trapping then water trapping mink and coons then down to Arizona for cats, coyotes and grey fox. After returning from there muskrat hut trapping then open water beaver/rat trapping. In the summertime I worked or made supplies for M&M furs, bottled lures with Miranda along with camera work on his videos.

With the single hot items fads that pop up most of the time in the industry unless you have access to the perfect storm it’s about impossible. My outlook always was that “ I don’t trap for the money the money allows me to trap “ I heard that years back I liked it. If it ever became just another job I wouldn’t do it after that it never has but I have taken off extended periods when nothing was worth trapping but I’ve done damage control for my landowners and skunks ( they are my people!) always. LOL
