Opinions on Bridger #5 (alaskan modified) vs MB 750 1/4 os.
I'd like to hear everyone's likes and dislikes if possible to help me make a decision before I stock up for next season..
Thanks to all

Bridger #5 and the MB 750 are good choices. Both are made in a wolf style with heavy chain ,lamination and base plates. There also others that are built for the wolf just depends on your budget. I have had incidental catches with Bridger #3's which held them but they chew and can destroy a trap that's not built for them.

Take a look at the No BS traps. Very well made. If your in the Flathead valley area, stop by The Party Store near the airport. Dennis has them on display. Plus he has some folding dragts that he invented. Very well made.

I've never messed with the Bridger #5, although I've talked to a couple guys who like them. The MB 750 is a good summertime wolf trap, it doesn't have either the spring strength or the jawspread to come up through much snow or crust, and is the worst trap I've dealt with to freeze down. In the price range of the two you mentioned, I like the Duke 850. I'd caught nine wolves in them without a problem, but I had one pull out this year, I think just barely a toe catch, he hit the end of a 12' chain and left a body imprint in the snow where it flipped him, then he was up and running off.
If your willing to spend more money, the NOBS is a better wintertime trap, and if you want to take out a bank loan the Alaska 9 is a fabulous deep snow trap that will go off when about any other commercial trap will be froze down. I don't like the high pan on the Alaska 9 but in deep snow and track sets it isn't as big an issue. You want to be careful where you are setting either of those traps though, because they will hang onto anything that steps in them. Releasing elk and moose isn't that much fun.

For an "affordable" wolf trap, the Bridger #5 Alaskan is OK. Much better than the MB 750 for reasons bearcat pointed out. As the "real" wolf traps go, I think the KORO #9 gets the nod. The Alaska #9 that JR Pederson is now making is indeed regarded as king, but it is also the most widely available. The KORO pan is nearly level with jaws and is a dogless design.

Just doing what I want now.

I really like the looks of the Koro and want to try some, mainly because as you mention the dogless design and lower pan, but never have. Another expensive trap that should be a great snow trap is the Lay 76, I handled one of them when Kyle brought a couple down to the Wolfer Summit a couple years ago. Only trap I've ever handled with more powerful springs than an Alaska 9, at least they felt that way to me.

The couple Alaska 9s I have are older models, not sure who made them but they were pre JR days. He has made some minor improvements to them, like being center swiveled rather than having the chain attached to the end of the crosspiece.
