Knowing bobcats are taken in exposed traps, would a cat avoid a pan it could see (color) or be more apt to step there?

I seriously doubt color would matter.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I catch too many cats on purpose with exposed traps and defined pans to show them a place to step, so I doubt that would be a deterrent.

Blue pan set. lol. Would the cat be more apt to step in that spot he could see (color), even though that is what blocking encourages?

Why bother covering?sometimes to keep people from being nosey.and the occasional coyote.why the big pans? less guiding=faster set=more traps out= more bobcats caught.

Also I run about 4 pounds of pan tension to try and keep from catching rabbits as much.maybe that helps with not having many toe catches?

I doubt color would cause a cat to avoid a pan but I am bad to box them into not really having anywhere else to step.

Cats are all about texture where they prefer to put their feet down at so try this to see just how sensitive they are about touching things. Wax paper a cats feet (its harmless to them) just keep the tape on the waxed paper and not the fur. Set the cat down and watch it try to walk and the result by blocking its touch sensations. Be prepared to roll on the floor it’s sometimes a one shot deal the next time they might just sit rather than walk with boots on.

I always thought the roof shingle idea would be a great thing to try the concept made sense texture wise.

FYI I believe cats are colorblind like most mammals.

I can't for the life of me see how these over sized pans don't cause alot of misses or at best (not a great scenario)) toe caught critters. My arguement has always been if a pan that size is a positive for the trap why wouldn't the manufacturer build them that way to begin with???

I’d rather miss a critter and get it the next go around then pinch a toe if it can be avoided. In the times were folks added expanded pan I added a lot of 1.5 coil pans to my 1.75 victors to improve my pad catches.

Now with the MJs the pans are not a problem but do what works for you.

If you bury your traps then it might happen. Set exposed, a cat can see the pan and will center his foot for you.

BTW I grew up in Brown Co, trapped in Jackson & Atchison Co's quite a bit.
