What is "great" money Catheryn? Buyer here in Fairbanks is paying around 90 top. Has Jerry been offered that much? Reluctant to believe lower 48 marten can FLOOD the marten market.
Up here marten numbers rise and fall regardless of the market and the catch. Last season much of Alaska was on an extreme high in marten numbers. Apparently that didn't flood the market!
Again, me and I bet others, especially Alaskans are interested in what early season marten are bringing. Can you put your money where your mouth is, so to speak?

What's it matter that Jerry traps marten in the lower 48? Not every trip or trapline is going to make buckets of money. If he's having a good time and not breaking any laws, then I say more power to him! I think of Teddy Roosevelt's " Man in the Arena".
I don't post much but this "mean girls" stuff is ridiculous.
I'll be headed to another state to trap next week. It'll be the 14th state that I've trapped. Most of my out of state traplines are recreational in nature and it's no one else's business if I lose money, break even or make enough to buy a new UTV. Those 14 states have allowed me to take my lifetime trapping bucket list of 33 furbearers during the past 50 seasons. I do this for me as Jerry does for himself, not for thumbs up or accolades from posters that believe themselves to be Jerimiah Johnson's reincarnation. This kind of attitude wreaked deer hunting for the multitudes.

The lower 48 probably produces more marten than you think but for sure not enough to flood the market. It seems that Ontario produces the most.

How many marten are harvested in AK. I can't find any good figures on the www.

Ontario claims to supply half the north American crop. The market won't get flooded because the price is still not that attractive in high cost remote areas and the marten in North America numbers do not exist to flood the market. It's one thing to live in marten country, it is another thing to have enough marten to trap any given year and the weather gods can shut you down also.

Cathryn you please keep posting, I look forward to your post, some of us had all kinds of plans to travel and trap and hunt, but God has other plan, I for one really enjoy everyone post about their trapping eventers,

I really enjoy the posts about anyone who is trapping. If someone can make it work more power to them and it’s nobody’s business.

I had a few jobs in my lifetime that I didn’t enjoy and didn’t make much money. I’ve always enjoyed trapping even if I didn’t make much.

I bet he comes out better than anyone in Minnesota. You can't afford to start your truck for 2 marten.
