What happened to them?

I have an old account there but it notes it doesn’t recognize the email but if I try to register a new account with that address it notes the email is already taken. What gives?

Not long ago they updated to a new version, now it says its unsupported by my current browser, whatever that means, but without updating my computer I can't get a newer version of my current browser... so I have to access my yahoo account through my phone until I get a new computer.

If you don't sign in, in over a year, Yahoo closes the email account. I had it happen to me with an account I use when you have to register to use selling websites, where you're likely to get daily spam. I was able to recover that account with my main account.

I need to check if I can still access that email, because it's been a long while again.

Yahoo is the absolute worst IMO. Even though I use it for email I still scream at it every day.
I would highly recommend Protonmail.com.
I have an alternate account there and it never seems to give me any issues.

I agree. I haven’t been using it for that reason but some of my other stuff is linked to it for recovery. Oh well, such is life.
