In a cabin we have up in the hills which I haven't been there for sometime now but I added block around that small stove and installed an old case iron cook stove top over top of it. It seemed to work real well in that 16x10 which is uninsulated and not even close to being air tight.

Today at the shack I put up two years ago I placed some blocks and a piece of steel over and around the stove. I really don't need it the cabin heats up fast and is easy to maintain the heat on the coldest minus day degree days. It was minus 7 the other day it had a constant 75 to 80 degrees thought the day. To warm!!

So has anyone else done this or something similar around there stoves.

Now you have a cook stove I think it looks great very nice.

I would lose the combustible wood blocks and put concrete pavers in their place.

Yep, just some orange chimney bricks I had out back.

Looks great....If it were mine I'd pull that rear tin heat shield off the studs, and use spacers to hold it off the wood.

Some asbestos stuffed behind the tin would be perfect...Probably take years just like it is before pyrolysis becomes a hazard though.

Those kind of stoves are in many Kentucky hunting cabins, and fur sheds.

Fill those bricks with sand, and it will really hold heat overnight.

I actually have electric porcelain fence wire holders as spacers on the studs and back side of tin. I believe they are 2.5 inch long porcelain stand offs you nail to wood posts. Nice air movement through there seems to do a good job and no tin attached to any wood product.
This is the stand off from studs on edge the center of tin to corner of wood wall is about 16 inches from the wood. Tin is bowed in curved shape to get more air flow behind stove to any combustible product.

At elk camp the top is about the same except an angle iron is around the edge to do all the cooking on it. the high edge keeps every thing on the skillet. It works great and the iron top is oiled well and stored away for just that purpose.

why yall put horse shoes on the top of them

I have a lot of used shoes so we always have thrown them on top of stoves. No reason it just has been done for years.
