Yep, on the red raspberries, blackberries, peaches, blueberries, quinces and apples. All make good pie.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

raspberries
we call them drive way snacks , never made it to a pie. I have about a 30 foot long patch of them along the fence near the drive way so you have to walk past them to get to the house.
use a little line to tie them up to the fence , they are an everbearing so from late June to early October they come in waves
as the ripen I go eat them as I pick them , if they really set heavy a bowl of them might make it in the house but then are eaten shortly
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Never made a pie with them, but love to eat them. Jam or jelly , and would mix red raspberries 1/2 and 1/2 peach juice , made wonderful jelly! Around 2011 we had a very good year of black raspberries, picked over 50 quarts of them. Canned about 14 quarts of pie filling, and sold 12 quarts fresh picked. Those pies were the best pies I ever ate.

I saved a bunch of June berry seeds. I am going to try to get them to grow this summer.

I grow red and black raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, plums, peaches, apricots, nectarines, sour cherries, apples, pears, strawberries, elderberry, grapes and black walnuts. All of them make good pie. I have a tiny amount of blueberries. I should have service berries in a few years. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283714-img_2338.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283716-img_3512.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283717-img_3231.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283719-img_2835.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283722-img_1076.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283723-img_1053.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/01/full-11798-283724-img_1091.jpeg) Keith

Are service berries and June berries the same bush? I see what people call service berries, and have never seen birds eat them. June berries grow as trees? Like choke cherries?

Yes, service berries and June berries are the same thing. They are native to Ohio. Like wild plums, they aren't very common anymore because wild fires are put out, or prevented and they are blocked out by larger trees from the sun. They are pretty trees, they get covered with white flowers in the Spring. Birds like them. There's similar small berries, they could be confused with. If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend making a black walnut pie. Pecan was my favorite pie, but I think I may like black walnut better. I have a lot of small pecan trees, but it's going to be a long time before I get enough pecan nuts for a pie. Keith

Forgot, I made a squash pie other week. I have some odd berries I need to tend and show you guys. They've gone down hill the last decade. Black and elder too. Need re-propagated
Hope you wrong on the peaches. I did all I could. A new apple I just threw in probably be fine.
