Ok another question when I come to cage traps. For all who build them I see a lot of folks say they just go to Lowe's or tractor supply and they will order in what you want, and this is gonna sound dumb but , how exactly do y'all go about asking that because seems every time I go into a place and ask if they can order in some 14 or 12 ga cage wire I just get a very confused look. And there not really sure what there looking at or what I'm asking . Go to the feed stores but they can never tell me what brand it is for some reason it's just what they have in the book. And a price .It's to the point I'm just about to either just buy some junk 14ga 1x2 off Amazon and hope these lil coon down here won't mess it up like y'all big ones up north ( shoot not like there gonna be getting used super heavy anyhow) or just stick with my horse panels .

The best place to get wire for cage traps seems to be missing in my saved files. That company had the ringers, j hookers and everything you needed to build cages or cage traps. Top of the line wire and products. Riverdale is who used to supply their wire. There's other places, but you have to be careful, as some places the wire will have missed welds and out of line wire. The spaces will start as an inch and wind up smaller or wider, changing the whole wire pattern . Causes a lot of scrap wire. https://riverdale.com/products/cagewire/

Get real cage wire from Klubertanz or Bass rabbit supply the home improvement stores sell cheaper junk that won’t last it’s welded after it’s galvanized leaving the joints to rust and weaken if they don’t break when you try to bend the new wire I’m not kidding.
Go to Klubertanz and do some research of what real cage wire is about they have an on line catalog you can check out. Lots of welded before/after, aluminum/zink coating, baby wire 1x2 vs 2x1 definition make up.

Depends on the cage size you can order a roll to cover the main body then a partial width roll to cover the front and back preventing wasted wire.

I looked at 1/2 x 1/2 by 24-inches by 25 ft today. It was $75 a roll. All from China, no doubt. It was at Home Depot. I’d hoped they’d be selling American cage wire but maybe it isn’t even made here anymore. With the very high tariff on Chinese goods, this might be as good as it gets.
1 x 1 1/2 mesh was almost as bad.

Klubertanz , river dale and bass are the three that keep popping up the last few years I've been looking at this stuff. How much is shipping running y'all is the question I have honestly

Galvanized after weld is more expensive for some reason than welded after galvanized. I used to paint my traps by dipping them in a 55 gallon drum filled with water, and black paint mixed with hardener and thinner floating on top the water. It only works with black paint. The paint would stick to the cage as it went in, and the water wouldn't wash it off. They came out completely painted , and I let them hang over the drum to drip some paint back in the drum. Got the idea from reading Henery Ford's method of painting frames for cars.

Klubertanz???? So avoid China and buy what sounds like German? They were an American company in Wisconsin, now located in Indiana. There are more ethnically German Americans than any other ethnicity. Keith

Try calling 1-800-237-3899. That number may work still. They moved to Indiana a while back, but are supposed to be in business still.
Keith
I tried the number. It still works, but it's after hours. I need to get more wire, later this year, for air pruning beds, preferably from Klubertanz. They have great wire. Keith

May as well stick with your hog panels by the time you buy that high priced wire and pay the shipping on it. I use the cheap stuff off Amazon, free shipping with prime. Yeeeep more and more that's what it's feeling like . Did the math and I'm.making 4 single door cages from horse panel for around $120 not counting time . I could make roughly 20 out of a 100' roll for around $500 that would be our $600 for the same amount our of panels....buuuut shipping that wire I'll try and give them a ring tomorrow see what it would cost . I honestly just wanna try building some "regular" traps Actually this makes me wonder . There been a few small cage trap making companies like pied piper pop up . They sell mainly at feed stores and the like...wonder what wore they use

Years ago I ordered 1 X 1 14 ga galvanized wire thru Tractor Supply or maybe Orschelns (when it was Orschelns) Farm supply. I bought 2 100 foot long rolls. One 48" tall and the other 36" tall. If I remember right they were over $100... maybe $125 a roll. That had to be 20 years ago. I still have some of either roll left but now that I am retired I probably will build a few more cages and probably will have to get another roll. I am sure I will be kinda sticker shocked when I see the price. But it pays to build cages heavy duty. All the traps I make have 1/4th rod frames and endgate. There is enough cheap junk around. The cages I make to sell are always bought by locals who bought cheap crap and after trying to catch critters that got out always come to me wanting to fix their trap. I usually sell em one I made.

Years ago you could get wire from about any lumberyard but now many US names like “ Redband” are not made here now.

Since I got you here just curious, did you make like a jig to bend your frames on or did you just cut and weld Everything together?
