Hey guys, need some advice. Years back I posted on here about making my own bait. You guys gave me some great advice. Since then I have been using bobcat meat with Jameson Sun Rendered Fish Oil. It’s been awesome. Today I got a new shipment of fish oil and bobcat meat. The fish oil was different in this shipment. Instead of having an “oil” type consistency it is more like a paste. It also has an unpleasant smell to my nose. Anyone ever seen this? Should I still use it or call? I hate being that guy who complains.

May God bless you and yours

In cooler temperatures, all sun rendered fish oil will turn into paste. It is basically rendered fatty tissue. It begins to solidify in the upper 50 degrees. It must be warmed before pourable use or it can be squeezed out like mayonaise and applied with a knife. As far as odor, each batch of drawn oil can vary a little in odor, just the nature of the beast in organic material workup.

It is in a solid state when we ship this time of year. Warm to room temperature or place in a heated space. This is pure material, not pressed oil. That is a completely different material.

I thought everyone knew pure rendered fish oil will thicken when exposed to cooler temps.

Thanks Bob for the explanation, I don't use fisk oil; so it's good information to know. Learned something new, this is one of the best trapping sites.
