The real key to Sanford & Son was the chemistry between characters. Lamont was the perfect 'straight man' to Fred G Sanford. Even kinda hating Aunt Esther , but she brought color and really riled up Fred. Always good for some funny dialogue.
One character I liked who was only in a few episodes was an overly Caucasian white police officer. He would only get a few lines but come across with an overly Caucasian statement ( not racial in any way ) and everyone would just stop and stare at this cop in disbelief. Then his partner ( a black cop ) would have to sorta translate , tell the white cop where he totally screwed up because of the white cop being completely clueless to how things worked in a black community. This character always got slammed on how stupid he was. Great laughs.
Don't know the character's name or the actor who did it , but funny.

RIP Grady. Sanford and Son was up there with All In the Family. We would watch both as a family, in my childhood. I was just watching S&S on YouTube about a week back. Kinda binged a bit as it was genuinely funny. Sad that the stereotype a profiling flag would be thrown if it aired today. We were a much better nation, in those days.

Definitely worth a few laughs. Kudos to the scriptwriters who invented this character. If you can't laugh at your own race/kind , you don't understand comedy. Mel Brooks and Woody Allen made fun of Jewish people on a regular basis and it was funny.
