Jerry was in the truck making calls to mississipi SO....i went in alone.lol

When i came out....

Jerry said.. i KNEW better than to let you go in Rural King.lol

Some of em have poopy butts so i got em real cheap but i usually have pretty good luck with saving em.

Im not sure how many there are till i get home and count em.

The anaconas(black and white ones) i got cheap but ill be able to sell them for good money if i decide to sell em. Some ill keep.

It gives me something to do while Jerrys in mississippi.

I wondered why i bought a bag of chick starter yesterday..

Yeah, poopy, butt is not hard.Just a soft paper towel with hot water on it...

I don't think i've lost a single 12 that. But I keep up on em every day when I hatch em...

The last few years I've been buying like 18 at the feed mill because then they come in. And if they die in the mail you don't pay for them, you only get healthy chicks.

Rural king will replace them if they die with 3 days

Cathryn, do you also hatch your own with broody hen or incubator? That's a lot of chick's, my wife had a cow when I brought home 14.

I have a buff orp that I think may be broody-ish. She wants to sit on eggs for a while, but then gets up on roost. If she'd stay on them fine, but at 11* they crack by morning. Probably not the best time to have a broody hen.

Cathryn, awesome.

Did you just buy them out of what they had left to get a deal?

We won't have chick's for sale up here for a long time yet

What's cheap?

Tractor supply will have them here in a couple months, but they're expensive, and never saw them reduce the price on older chicks...

Gotta ask them at Tractor Supply and they will drop the price. Also can give them your phone number and have them call you when chicks get older and new ones are coming in to sell. My Nephew gets 100"s a year from them that way for a buck each, sometimes turkeys and ducks too.

Hey catherine something i was told to do by an old rooster man is to put 4 capfuls of clorox bleach in a 5 gallon bucket of water to water the baby chicks with. he said it kills stuff in their intestines. I have been doing it for a while and i never had any problems with chicks getting sick and dying. Also feed non medicated chick starter

P prefer to wait and buy them when they mark them down because they are geting older. Get them fully feathered and less likely to die. Saves a 3 weeks plus in feed and cleaning up chips.

Then there is the O I have been wanting some of that breed and well they come home as day olds.
I think im worse in impulse buying them than my wife is.

Congratulations on your new chick's. Thanks for the warring to stay out of the feed store.

Yes. I have hens that hatch on their own.last year i hatched 5 nests of my own. I actualky have a gen setting niw..shes my broodiest hen ive ever had. Shes 4...she waas a homr hatch and shes hatched probably 8 timea. She hatched christmas day last year.

Ive never had any luck with Buffs going broody..

The best breeds for setting ive found are barred rocks or my home barnyard mix hatches.

Jerry just.shakes his head but i dont have too many habits that cost much so theyre pretty much my anxiety release.

I truly love chickens and have for years. Its not even about thr eggs..i have some elderly ladies that will just l8ve out tere lives on the place.

I love
