A couple weeks ago I was messing with some #10 food cans with different ways to set 120s in front of them for skunks. One of the sets had the trap pulled off the stake swivel rather easily it didn't even leave any disturbance at the set. Today I caught a big boar coon wearing it for a bracelet it in a cage trap it's a little polished up but in good shape. A testament to the holding power and strength of Belisle traps. The swivel problem was a fluke just a missed button crush.

Couple weeks ! WOW. He must have been the "Talk of the Town" around the ladies. Can’t believe it didn’t hang up in the junk piles and cedar snags around the old farm place. I walked it a few times after it pulled off of the stake but he was a big boy not much would slow him down.

How did he not snag the thing in that time, it was all folded up the springs were folded inward so it was 6x6 square when I got there.

So the swivel attachment on the end of the cable came off?
Ferrule on end didn't get crimped good enough? Got a pic?
Going to have to start checking mine They use a snare type arrow tip looking swivel not a mark on the cable tip where it should have been crimped only one I came across they popped off like that so far. I see the one pic the cable off camera I’ll post the second pic and see if it’s in frame. Looked at the second pic it’s the same being stiff and straight.

I'm familiar with them, thats why I'm interested. Makes me want to double check all mine . I was shocked that the set area was not disturbed so it took very little to pop that button off the end.

a belislie 120 will hold a coon by its leg no problem if its anchored is solid had a few reach into mink boxes when i first started using boxes i just anchored to boxes that stopped really fast like the old trapping saying goes trapping for mice anchor for bear

Imagine a cereal so bad adding two scoops of raisins made it better.

Very cool, law dog. Glad you got it back.
One time several seasons ago I had two sets in a small waterway out of back of a pond. I made a pocket set where a coon trail came right down to the knee deep water and then directly across from the pocket set on other side of the ditch was the trail going back up the other side. I had a 160 set there because it was narrow kind a deep slot type trail and the 160 covered it perfectly. About two checks in and I saw the pocket set had been worked, I fished around in the water but couldn’t find the 1.5 coil or the stake it was cabled to. I felt horrible must be a coon carrying that bracelet with my trap tag on it. Ugh. After several minutes searching around up and down stream I went back and checked the 160 on other side and it had a coon in it, still wearing the 1.5 coil, cable, and stake. Picked up my spirits and what are the chances that coon had a bad day getting out one set only to get whacked in the next. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Assuming he was doomed, it was suicide by body grip.

The unknown is the worse part when you lose a trap. I’m redoing every cable with a standard trap swivel and double ferrules for strength not the straight cable/button BS that disappointing even on snares, double ferrules and trap swivels work the best for me.
