Do they freezer burn if stored to long? Can the leather still be used if freezer burned?

I think it would be fine.

I used to stored fleshed tails in my freezer a couple years before sending them out get tanned, they come back looking fine, though every once in a while while working on setting up to sew, there will be a crack in it, I bend it to see what happens and it splits, since then up until finally finding a supplier a year or so ago, I would check them close for cuts, which is usually the reason they split, never had them freezer burned if wrapped up thick in paper

I couldn't tell you if its poor fleshing or a nick already almost thru and the pressure made it finish, So now I don't let them go longer than one season buying and send them out, or well used to only have one tanner I found worth buying from and I just buy the tails and dye them my self, he don't dye them just tan's them and shaves them, but he does a fine job of them !

I'm in them the same cost as trying to buy them here or else where and then do all the prep work then send them in pay for the tan after words, only difference now is I tan them

The guy I sell tails to only wants fresh frozen, nothing that has a chance of freezer burn.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

GritGuy, can you share where you are sending the tails to tan?

My experience is if you don't skin them in about 6 months they start to freezer burn and become impossible to skin after a year.
