I'm trapping an area with a massive amount of fresh beaver sign. The day I set traps the temperature dropped dramatically, and we got our yearly snow fall. Temps have remained low and the last three checks have yielded nothing. I'm not seeing any sign, tracks, etc. I have crossovers set as well as trails.

My question for us southern trappers, do beaver change their pattern like any other animal? Seems logical

Thanks

Any ice? Beaver wont travel under ice if the ice is thicker than a skim. If it is just a skim they will sometimes punch the head up through the ice for air every 30-50 feet and travel under it. Maybe 5/16” to 3/8” is about the thickest they will do that around here.
Im not southern so I dont have much to say about open water patterns and weather changes, but thought the ice thing might be worth mentioning since if you don’t see ice often you might not know.
