Anyone use the self adjusting tire chains? Was wondering how they worked out or how they held up

A friend's dad used to put them on his 2wd truck before he drove up a steep dirt road to get to his deer hunting spot... He climbed up that big hill no problem, and got up there when other trucks couldn't. I think it was a Dodge D-100 with the 3 speed on the tree

If they are for a "newer " truck just make sure there is fender well clearance AND clearance behind the wheel for chains.

Thanks!

My concern was that self adjusting mechanism getting clogged with ice/snow. These would be going on a 2500HD Chevy.

I have a set of those for all our vehicles. I have used mine a fair amount here and in Colorado. They have worked great and have had not problems with them. I also have the d school type I keep for back up. These have worked well enough and go on so much easier.

Thanks Matt! Info I was looking for. Don’t need em a whole lot here in Arkansas, but work requires getting out in some nasty stuff and wanted something easy to get on and off.

I've had these for quite a while. Was on call and used them to get to work. From Tirechains.com.

I haven't ran those, but I've run the camlock chains and really like them. In fact the chains for my Dodge 3500 are cut down semi chains with the cam locks. Saves messing with bungee cords and stopping and tightening chains after you drove a couple miles. For a diesel like you have I would look to get some pretty stout chains, those diesels have a lot of torque and you want to have something that will hold up to that.

Two things on installing them, they are way easier to put on before you are stuck. And I don't lay them on the ground and drive onto them, I drape them over the tire like the should go, with the two ends hanging down front and back, and tuck one end under the tire as much as I can and pull a foot or two onto them. I find this an easier way to install them.

Exactly.
They look like for emergency use only, sort of like those worthless cable chains.

Love the cable "ZT" type cable chains myself. Lots of on & off use for me though as I don't run them for weeks on end.
