Any one hear anything from the sale in Hugo, Colorado? It is an open auction rather than sealed bid, so some times bidding gets exciting.

Today is antler and dressed goods. Tomorrow (Thursday the 5th ) is raw fur.

Yes, I know that. I was hoping for an informant that was there as a “guest”. Or maybe they confiscated cell phones before entering the building!! LOL

Extremely happy equals twice over expectations….
And that still ain’t much on the keystone species.

I hope you are right. I’ve shipped to that sale for quite a few years. The past couple of years have been disappointing. Guess I will wait patiently wait for my check.

So marten are replacing skunks for the token top fur bearer? For a midwestern ag country trapper that’s about as exciting as kissing your sister.

Will these developments ever tickle into the broader markets? The country buyer continue to sit on their hands.

IMO you may be a bit ignorant of the historical marten market and how important this species has been for NAFA and FHA over the years.

Thanks Dirt
That would be a good thing. IMO

Sound like significant moves in this item with historical background.

First time in 5 years that I didn’t run my fur out there and help out for a bit. Hope it went well. Wouldn’t take much to out do last year

Marten prices have always been highly volatile. The production volume is medium. Maybe 200 to 300 hundred thousand peaks? Multiply that by $100 and it beats most other species overall value on a good year.

BTW I have seen $30 to $200 averages in my short time on this planet.

Russia was supposed @ $300. Finally a fur keeping up with inflation. Frankly I can’t see how this isn’t positive. Much more interesting than the beaver bubble or skunk craze.

However in today’s world one can hardly squeeze out a conversation on the fur market among producers. Could this be a sign?

And by beaver bubble I’m referring to removing the hair and pressing it into a cowboy hat. That does nothing for the fur market.
