Good year for otter. Beaver nothing special. They were not in the toilet.

Wasn't it spring of 2012 that the Dalai Llama said it embarrassed him to see his people using otter skins in their prayer robes? The Chinese middlemen that bought otter on the early Nafa sale brought them back trying to sell them on the second sale. Otter prices plunged from well north of $100 averages to mid twenties and very low clearances.

No wonder Oregon put the brakes on beaver trapping! Over 500 in one year, from one trapper? LOL.

Just doing what I want now.

High tides raise all ships. That’s JFKs theory. I am a hopeless optimist when it comes to fur. Hope FHA can make something happen. Been disappointed before tho.

Ranch mink? Are there any left? Where I live in WI used to have a very high concentration of ranches. It has reduced to one that I know of. I believe Denmark was the leading country prior to CV. They pelted out completely and the Europeans are going after fur farming. It’s taken 12 years to dissolve the market glut. I suppose china is a wild card here as production there is kept secret.

Perhaps a once in a lifetime event. Record prices, great conditions, youthful energy and exceptional populations. It was a good time to be a trapper. Followed by a really bad time. It’s all relative. Many had to abandon their passions to move on making a living.

It left an impression on me!

Nothing like the late 70's early 80's though. Now that was a fur boom. Short hair, long hair, no matter, it was all $$$.

That boom made many my age want to be involved in the fur industry. What a wholesome way to make a living. Then The mid eighties the antis proceeded to change the animal to human perception. Which helped cripple-the industry. We reached for China and got some relief but that and high prices across the board never really carried. Today we face an array of new “ideas” and with some luck, they’ve gone too far and society will come around.

Theres about 110million more people in the US today, vs 1981.

Places that I hunted in high-school now have houses, Dollar Generals, and subdivisions.

More people are born, bred, and raised on pavement today, than any time in the past.

Life is about change.
