Had these molds for a few years after a stupid buy figured it's about time to put em to use . Only doing the single cavity right now , makes some pretty pills I think

Gotta protect the barrel from the lead one way or another and that leaves you either a lube of some sort or a jacket . Powder coat just acts las a polymer jacket. Protect the lead from the barrel barrel from the lead and the bast of the bullet from the hot gasses with a plain base bullet instead of copper gas check on the bottom of the bullet

Thanks that makes sense.
The ones we used were not coated,
but lubed and checked if I remember right.
125gn I liked.

I recently was given back my old jig molds.
I'll be the next one cookin.
Those could use color.

Be careful of loading them with Lil Gun or H110 and powder coated 125s, serious leading.
I've done better with Hornady XTPs ..

I've never tried powder coating cast bullets. I found the plain base worked well in 38 specials, but when you stepped it up to heavier 357 mag loads a gas check was nice. I use the Lee Lube on all my cast bullets, been very happy with it and no luber/sizer needed (obviously still need a sizer if your bullets are oversize, but most of my Lee molds cast bullets that I can load without sizing, I tend not to use the couple molds that cast bullets large enough I have to size)

Gas checks will usually help reduce pressure.

Is powder coating a very involved process? I don’t reload but I’m fascinated with all your gun builds and reloading posts. Very interesting stuff.

Egh it's not terrible imo . Big thing is getting good powder . That stuff from harbor freight will make you pull you hair out this is my lil process

Size and gas check my bullets if the need them
[Linked Image]

Thow them in a blow with some acetone to get off any oils from my hands and swirl them around for a minute, drain off the excess and pour them out on some.paper tow to dry
[Linked Image]

Once there dry I toss them in older tumbler i have and use specifically for PC , dump a lil PC in there turn it on and forget about it for like 10min
[Linked Image]

While three tumbling I go ahead and preheat my lil toaster oven to like 400° something

Come back and you can either just dump them all on a wire tray and bake them like that or you can stand them up som way , I use one of these lil silicone ice cube trays
[Linked Image]

Pop them in and let them go on 400° till I see the powder get all shiny and liquid the. Turn it to like 350 for 15min
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Then once there done I dump them in a bucket of water to quech them , you could let them air cool if you wanted them soft though then I just size them all again real quick to make sure everything is uniform. Seem like a lot but I can do this half asleep

What powder do you use? Those look great!

I haven't made any in years, but I still have some.

What is the issue with the Harbor Freight powder? I've never powder coated bullets but I've powder coated traps white with that Harbor Freight powder and been happy with it.
