Re worke d this stock last night and want sure what to do but don't want to paint it. Couldn't d linseed oil but red tung oil was the next best thing so put a coat on it and ....idk not sure how j feel about the looks , kinda think I should have done a dark stain or something. What all think ?

I like a darker stain. The reworking looks really nice.

Laminate wood doesn't take stain or oil very good. Paint is your best option. Since its going on a 30-06 may I suggest cherry blossoms grin

Rub water on it and hit it with a blow dryer and wisker the wood. The water will tell you the color of the wood.

I would leave it just as it is, and let it wear with age. It'll change color you'll see.Take a cup of good pictures to compare in the future. i think it'll stand out in the gun case

If you only have one coat on it you could probably get some gel stain to to take
