This is a little twist on the bobcat toilet thread and the catch circle dirt thread. I keep piles, of shale, gravel, dirt, and sand out at my barn to use throughout the year. I noticed the other day that some neighborhood cats have starting using my sand pile as a litter box. I thought about scooping these spots up and storing in a 5-gallon bucket. I won't be doing any more trapping this year. Any thoughts on storage and usage? Thanks!

I've got a pile that I started this winter in a known cat crossing. I'm curious to see how they react to it, if they react at all. So far the only things to investigate have been two wolves and a coyote.

I was told by a few well-known trappers that they kept house cats and saved the litter. Then when trapping season started, they used the cat litter at their sets. They never said anything about storage.

I've never saved cat litter, but I save wolf poo from year to year in the freezer, keeps it fresh and from drying out. You should be able to do the same with cat litter, or you can let it dry out and maybe squirt it with a little urine when you make sets with it. If I wasn't going to freeze it though I would not store it in an airtight container, if you store it moist in an airtight container it will ferment.
