This past weekend my kids and I set traps for the first time. I had six leg-hold traps that I bought 15 years ago but had never used. At the time I lived in a more rural area, but I soon moved to a large city and public land that allows trapping is incredibly rare and hours away. Recently, however, my parents bought a retirement home on 50 acres and are putting in a garden. Momma's worried about her tomatoes come June and having some competition from the local coon population, so I decided to dust off the old traps, add a half dozen dog proofs, and see if we couldn't thin the population a bit.
We only let the traps sit one night, but we ended up catching two. The kids had a blast, both setting and running the small line. My son now wants to set out the traps every time we go to visit my parents. I held onto those original six traps all those years, hoping to some day escape the city and live someplace I could put them to work. I'm glad I kept them!

Fantastic! What a great experience with your children. One that you’ll all remember for a lifetime.
