I’ve gotten quite a few PMs asking for the ingredients in the super secret seasoning mix. I would gladly share it with you folks if I could. Here’s why I can’t.

The seasoning recipe was developed by a guy named Elwood (Woody) Boyer back in 1952. He was WWII marine. When the war ended he opened a small general store at a crossroads named for his family, Boyer’s Junction.

I knew Woody since the 70s and have been buying his seasoning mix since the 90s. I tried getting the recipe from him before he passed away and continue trying to get it from the various butchers that have worked there over the decades. None of them would share it with me. It is no longer made on site but shipped to the store in 60 pound boxes. The recipe is proprietary and is really a quite heavily guarded secret.

I imagine it is probably somewhat like the crabby patty recipe on SpongeBob, a handwritten recipe, kept in a safe somewhere. LOL

Eh...wot?

Maybe you should suggest they start selling it online? Maybe their happy with the amount of sales they already have. But you could suggest it. Maybe they would whole sale it to you and you could sell it online?? It could become world famous.
Something to ponder.

Take a cup of the seasoning to Villanova...and have them

Test it ..and break down the ingredients list

I've often thought about doing that. I was curious about the cost too. And could they give the ratios of ingredients?

My biggest fear is the store will change hands and the seasoning mix will no longer be available to me. It actually did change hands about five years ago but thankfully the new owner kept the butcher shop open.

Eh...wot?
