Last month was $186, this new bill is $206. That’s for electric and natural gas combined. We have gas range, gas hot water heater, gas furnace, gas dryer and everything else electric. This new bill is the largest one for this season. Goes down below $100 in summer.

$789 Canadian pesos in January, $707 last January. That’s at about $0.095/kwh.
House & shop is 100% electric.

My elec bill was up about $40 from what it usually is in the fall and spring. I heat with wood in my cabin with back up elec heat. I also heat a 20 foot insulated shipping container I use for storage but I don't keep that container very warm. That's probably where the $40 dollars went. My cabin heaters never kicked on hardly .It was pretty warm the last month with only a handfull of really cold nites here in SE Nebraska

All Propane and electric here and it bounced between $200 and $300 the last couple months. That includes our whole home Generac generator briefly running each morning on its daily testing cycle too. That is a propane engine in that thing and will run the entire home if needed. We have a large propane tank.
February so far has been extremely mild and I expect this month to be very low. Only one day this month has been below average temp all other days well above average. 50s this weekend and almost 70 forecasted for Monday. Will be 2nd or 3rd time touching 70 this month.
I’ll take that.
We have a fairly decent sized home at 3,200 square feet so a couple hundred to heat it in winter seems OK by me.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

With temps like that, I'm surprised you used any heat! grin

100% heat with wood, but have a propane gas stove as a backup....The hot water heater is electric, and it's in a back room that doesn't get much radiant heat from the woodstove.

So we wrapped the hot water heater with a insulation blanket, and that saved a lot of electric usage for cheap.

Gas fired HVAC heating here. Electric was $87, gas was $40. Watch hummingbirds on the feeder all day long. Love AZ in the winter.

1,400 square foot ranch home, no basement. For decades we heated with wood and used only a bit of heating oil in fall and spring. Severe back injury prevents me from heating with wood. New this fall we had installed a supposedly high efficient propane furnace which in January used $481 in propane. Electric water heater and furnace blower $244. So $725 total for January which seems outrageous.

We are building a new house this spring. 2,500 square feet and it will be very well insulated.

Is your propane piped in from somewhere and metered like natural gas? That sure seems like a lot of propane.

How much is kerosene there ?

In my area , that ($50) would be less than 5 gallons.

Like 10 a gallon I think we can only get the jugs from Walmart and the like

$122 for natural gas, which feeds the stand-alone fireplace, (main heat source for the house), water heater and range, and electricity was $146., which powers 1 baseboard heater and all appliances except the range.
Our electricity is bizarre. We used $48. in actual power, but then get charged a "delivery fee", "equipment rental" for using the lines and power poles!, (no kidding), a subsidization charge for those that can't afford electricity, another charge to help our provider, (Pacific Power), pay for the damage wildfire caused due to their lines and exploding transformers, and some other weird thing I don't remember. So basically, our electric bill is about 4 times what it should be for electricity.

Just doing what I want now.

I guess I don't understand how propane can be that much. I heat the entire winter on about 900 bucks worth. I have a 1000 gallon tank and have never filled it completely.

Trapdog - the propane is delivered by truck with a long hose to the tanks behind the house. The metering system on the truck is very modern - but that does necessarily mean accurate. However based upon the gauge before the delivery, the metering system seems accurate.

Our house is not well insulated or efficient. We have made it as energy efficient as possible. The new house will be larger, but we expect it to use no more energy than this house.

Your house must be very well insulated. What have you done for thermal efficiency?

Tank was filled yesterday for our monthly fill up, 130.9 gal @ 3.399 per gal. 20 bucks to deliver.

It is a small house to begin with, so that helps. I've added a little insulation in the attic and upgraded the doors and windows, And the windbreak I planted some years ago is finally getting big enough to be effective.

When I lived in Alaska, my gas bill (heating, cooking, hot water), was less than $50/month. Now, I burn about 400 gallons of oil per year plus wood cut on my own place.
