I'm glad you caught the escaped coyote ! Back during high fur prices I caught 3 coyotes out of 30 in the one area I was snaring in that had someone else's snares around there neck .

Complete with the swivel so I guessed they didn't wire them off very effectively and or were trying to cut corners on the length of snares used with relaxing locks .

I was using aggressive locks with a 25 lb dispatch spring and much longer snares !

You're friend along the snare line .

I know he escaped the first time due to my lack of experience. The first time, when I saw the circle I knew he could not have been snared correctly. The loop was too big which allowed him to step into the loop and get caught around neck and shoulder under the leg. I also lacked in my wiring/anchoring. I learned a lot from that and the second time was a perfect catch.
By law, we have to use the relaxing locks. This is a whole new ball game for me.

I once put two victor#1 soft catches about 30 feet apart on rabbit burrows, that night a fox came up and started sniffing around one of the burrows and got his right front paw caught in one of those little victors.
He managed to jack the stake out of the ground and started to make his getaway down the sandhill-where he stuck his left foot in the other trap. He didn’t have as much luck with this stake and I found him there next morning.
