Anyone have a link for the tool used to release catches that are like a giant tongs? I've seen them on a few videos for live market. Thanks

Can't post a link but maybe your talking about these? I have used the steele version but the aluminum ones are alot lighter weight and worth the extra money.they don't really work any better than a regular catch pole for getting animals out of a trap tho.i still use a catch pole for that.where they shine is getting coyotes in and out of boxes and holding pens.where they can stick there head tight in a corner making getting the loop of a catch pole over them difficult.with the tongs you can just grab them from the back of tge neck

That's the first I have seen that device. Shakey do use one and if you do how does it work in the freezing temps?

For the guys that use them are the smaller filler pieces necessary for a mixed coyote/bobcat/red fox line?

I don’t have one but it would’ve been nice to try for that deer the other weekend!…..lol
I think it’s in Paul Trepus Wolf Trapping DVD and he was using in in BC and Alberta to collar wolves. Let me see if I can find it.
Nope, it’s not in his foothold vid. Can’t recall what vid I saw it used in.

I used mine only for coyotes when I live marketed and then only to remove them from holding cages for release into the hound training enclosures.

I used the standard cable chokestick for removal from trap. Always was a bit antsy about losing one with the tongs between trap and cage/truck. Contrary to popular opinion....they all don't act calm when being handled.

For foxes, I used the standard chokestick.

For bcats, here in Georgia, must dispatch at trap site with .22 rimfire by law.

I have a standard cable one. I have used it on cats but really hated to because you are not fast enough you might not get the cat out in time.

They work fine in the cold, they were originally mainly designed for releasing large animals out of wolf traps, then he made a lighter version for those who don't need the big version.

I have one of those tong setups also, the steel version. Mine was given to me by a hound hunter, they were sold to houndmen as "coon tongs" to handle live coons from pen to roll cage, etc. Same thing, just different marketing. I've never used it, was given to me fifteen plus years ago and got put in the shed, hadn't thought of it in years until I seen the picture here.

From what I've heard the Reese Wolf release pole is iffy on working on the square jawed Bridger 9 or Lay 76 wolf traps, but will work on all the other big traps including the Alaska 9 and clear down to a 1 1/2 (you have to adjust it for significantly different sizes of traps).
