....NOT quite cold enough today! This ol'gal (about 8 feet) was active today. Had to skip setting a couple of good otter crossovers because of her and her 24" offspring's inability to just "chill out." Maybe, 27° on Tuesday morning will make her sink for a while a day or two. Otter season ends on Feb 28th here. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/02/full-11603-286194-1000003877.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/02/full-11603-286195-1000003876.jpg)

Great pictures , how dangerous are them rascals? Do they get aggressive like there going to attack or more like a bear where they would just as soon retreat? Not aggressive. Most are content to just sit and eyeball you. But they are opportunistic feeders so your catch or dog are on the menu. And of course you should never turn your back on one, they operate in stealth mode without a lot of fuss in movement. They cruise in close and make a quick grab.

Not aggressive, but female stands her ground when she has a group of last summer's young around her.
Main issue is if they decide to use a crossover and end up with a 330 BG or a snare on it's snout. One that big is hard to handle by myself, so it just kinks up the day to get them safely released.
The thought is always on my mind when I know there is an 8 or 9 foot plus gator in the same water than I'm kneeling down in to set a beaver trap. That low profile might make one bolder. Never happened to me, but I'm aware.
Have seen more than a dozen in past week with high temps reaching the 80s. Supposed to be back down in the 20s next couple days so that may stun them.

they were all around me yesterday while bass fishing. they need to end this asinine protected status crap. We have a quota-limited season here in Georgia. Most landowners handle any problems themselves. Either they like the gators or they don't. If they do...then they dont want them messed with by anyone. If they don't like 'em...they go belly up until they sink.

Interesting, glad we don't have to deal with them here. I just nailed a loner Beaver he's been avoiding or destroying my sets for the last 3 years it was about a 60lb male, yeah!!! Congrats! That's always a good feeling to win the battle.
