How does anyone remove/untangle a beaver that has pine resin tangles? Can I use lighter fluid to soften

resin then comb out?

Rubbing alcohol. Used to use denatured alcohol but I was out one time and used what I had, I believe rubbing alcohol actually works better. Baby oil also works, but then you have to clean the baby oil out. If it is a big chunk of pitch, spray it down with alcohol, then rub cornmeal in, and then spray with alcohol and work it out with your fingers, the cornmeal will soak up the pitch as the alcohol dissolves it.

Caveat, I've never dealt with pitch in beaver that I recall, but certainly have in plenty of other furs.

Leave it. We had many lengthy discussions about this very topic on the wilderness forum, including advice from buyers. And this was mainly for high-end fur. The tanning process will remove the pitch, and buyers should not down-grade you for pitch. Alcohol will dull the fur, and dry out the leather. And you are likely to damage and/or pull out fur while removing pitch or disentangling the fur.

Just doing what I want now.

I flesh my case skinned beaver on a beam and have torn holes over a tangle when bearing down. I have always had problems pulling out fur while trying
to remove a tangle. Excellent suggestions, thanks

I've heard fur buyers say that also. And then watch them at the auctions, and kept notes. 100% of the time they offered less on bobcats with pitch in the fur than similar cats that I had carefully removed the pitch from. You do need to take your time and remove it carefully, don't pull out clumps of fur obviously.
