We were told in AirAssault school after 34 feet, your level of fear really didn't change up to however high you went. I didn't believe that at all. Big difference looking off a 34' repel tower and out of a helicopter flying at 400'.

Tallest wood pole I’ve ever climbed was a 115 foot h structure outside of Sheridan Wyoming, deadened 345 kv triple bundled conductors out on a hook ladder on what they said was a 180 foot tower but I wasn’t clear to the top someone else was up there deadending the statics ,putting the wire in shoes at the bottom of the insulators on165 foot towers from a man lift really has you looking down to the ground and thinking about the stability of your outriggers we were always told we shouldn’t be operating them if the wind was over I think it was 40 mph but that got pushed in emergencies Our rules changed about 6 years ago regarding wind and being in an aerial device. Changes were made when one of our buckets slid on an icy gravel road into the ditch while guys were aloft during a breezy day. Classic knee jerk over reaction by safety. Think it’s something stupid like 48kph (about 30mph). That rule is never followed and no good supervisor gives a crap about it, field safety officers kinda look the other way as most of them came from the line trade. The problem is there’s no journeymen linemen in our corporate safety department. They get drummed out right away and the rules are made by people who’ve never worked in the field, never mind putting the hooks on.

Before I had my neck fused I'd of given it a try , not promising anything but I'd of tried just the same .
Since then after the 2nd time my neck was fused and my balance really got worse I've tried going up 30' to focus stage lights without any success and had one of the rigger's go up and finish focus the lights .
Even now when I'm on the roof at Metra Park to get a breath of fresh air I'm fine looking out across the area but to walk over to the edge then looking straight down I have to hold onto something ha ha . I can still walk on the cat walk without holding onto the hand rails and yes if there's others on the cat walk with you , you'll feel it moving at times .
You're friend along the snare line . Allan
