Read his Part five Learning Experience in the post last night. What a story!! Had an experience not quite like that but for a 12 year old and my first and only trapping partner it hit home. Did most of the work that year, all the put-up and the kid wanted half. Didn't happen!! Mom had try to tell me. Boss, sure enjoy his stories.

I enjoyed that too. One time I met Mr. Dobbins at a convention and asked him a million questions. He was gracious and kind and helped a kid understand some trapping principals.

Just passin through

That last story he wrote in the TP was a great story. He handled the situation perfectly, the way it should have been done.

I believe it's in Trapper's Post. They've been publishing chapters from our book, On The Line.

Warms my heart to see generation after generation discovery his story's. He left behind a treasure of stories and instructional books and videos that many will be discovering for the first time after we are all gone and forgotten about. I been re reading them as well and enjoying them like it's the first time i read them.

Reading his writings is like reading the bible. No matter how many times I read them, I seem to learn something new. I ask myself, "Why didn't I think of that?"

Just a question. I saw this in Trapper's Post. It says Part 5. Were part 1-4 posted previously or is this an excerpt from his book ?

I've read a lot of trapping material since the mid '70's,some stick in your mind as a favorite. When "Learning New Ways" was first published in the Trapper magazine I read it over and over, absolutely loved it.A few weeks ago I saw it in book form and wasted no time ordering it so now I'm reading it again. One of,if not favorite trapping book of all time.Very informative, yet entertaining.Mr.Dobbins really hit it out of the park with this one.

I met Mr. Dobbins at the OSTA convention when it was in Jefferson, in the northwest corner of the state. I was 21 years old and pretty proud of my trapping skills. After spending a day picking his brain I realized just how little I knew. From modifying traps to tailoring a set to a particular situation, he inspired me to begin a life long quest to become better. He also told me that I could write, and that began a lifelong quest to become as good a writer as him. I don't know if that will ever happen, but the way he put it, the fun is in the trying, and I'm finding that to be true.

Learning new ways and the great teachers are my 2 favorite trapping books of all time. He truly had a way with words and so does Paul. Im very thankful for what they have done for the trapping community.
