My old Eddie Bauer parka that served me well for 30 years has finally bit the dust.
Google search isn't showing me what I am looking for.
Anyone have a suggestion for a good, well built, extreme cold weather parka ?

Apocalypse Designs in Fairbanks makes a pretty good looking one. I just replaced my gear with refrigewear this year and have been pretty happy. But it isn’t a parka.

Well dang .... forgot about Apocalypse ! I'll check out what they might have. I got an anorak shell from them many moons ago

Canada goose makes some really nice parkas for the Antarctic if you want to spend the money and they where the main buyer for coyotes uptill a few years when they decided they where not buying coyotes anymore under pressure from anti fur who where their biggest buyers little did they know that canada goose had a 10 year supply in their warehouse

I freaking love the army issued ECWCS level 7 jackets. These old grey ones can be found as cheap as 50 bucks. So no hard feeling when they smell like gusto.

Also pro tip, the army invested in this new uniform ensemble (2023-24)called CTAPS. Combined temperature arctic protection system.

Long story short they’re a protype and not standard issue so they “end up” at places like 907 surplus here in fairbanks. Probably a 8-1000 dollar parka for I think three bills.

I use a Carhart parka. Lot's of pockets. Buy a size larger than you need and wear a vest under it. When super cold or windy I have a shell parka with hood and a ruff to pull over it.
Even in nasty cold you need to be able to shed layers to minimize perspiration.

Next time you are in Fairbanks.... get thee to Apocalypse on Minnie Steet.

I had them make me one in 1989 and it is still going strong. And they made the sleeves long enough for a tall, fat man!

Check out the surplus Canada Goose jackets that were "lightly" worn in Antarctica. Cool patch sewn on them, the old coyote fur trim and you won't pay the full CG price......but still not cheap.

I didn't want to use my GFW jackets as it's expensive for me, but figured it'd just hang in the closet for 364 days of the year so I wear it on the line. I like it, warm and light. The only thing that really sucks is the cheap junk Chinese zipper..........which GFW won't warranty after it breaks unless you only use it for Sunday church. It's standing up OK so far after 2 seasons and we'll see how long it lasts after I sew in a YKK zipper, but I'm not buying GFW again.
Military surplus is great, but can be heavy.

Following this, my old thrift store one I've been wearing for years is in need of replacement. It is starting to shed feathers. lol. It was a dandy, but I'm unsure what brand it was, someone cut the tag out of it before I got it. But it kept me warm in cold weather and wind, and dry in wet sloppy snow for years.
