160 years and this is their first trim? If they do it for you then everbody else will want the same. I do feel your pain though.

Most utilities have a lot of legal teeth when it comes to ROWs. That’s all I’m gonna say. I got in trouble for work talk on social media……lol

If the guy gave you a pass and something bad happened because of it he would be fired or worse.

On most roads, 15' would be about 4 feet from the edge..Are they really that close? I'd be taking a tape and verifying the distance

OK here's some pictures of the 2 trees that I'm talking about. I'm just asking if they can leave about 4' out from the trunk. But OMG they will both look like crap trimmed all the way to the trunks.

Good luck with your situation. A few years back a main transmission line was ran across the back corner of the farm. It got maybe 4 acres of woods. There was an old pear tree on the outside edge of the easement i had deer hunted around for years that they could have left alone but ground it up. Really got to me. I live beside the road and have an oak beside road line they mangle every few years to keep limbs off the line. Got a card left on front door other day they r coming back again. Last time they did it was wet and they rutted the yard bad. Fella with west va plates told me the ruts would pop back up after winter lol. Sorry for the long winded reply but i feel your pain

Telephone lines, powerlines, railroad, etc. more power than all but the dnr. I try to find a way to make it all come out and cost them dollars in some way shape or form!

Ok the man with a plan. I talk to the crew that was trimming the right aways for the electric company last week. I asked if I could get them to leave me a few feet of branches on the 2 big cedar trees on the road side, unsteady trimming them both all the way to the trunk's of both trees? I hinted I could invite them all (5 guys) to a cookout. I told them that I would be smoking Hot Buffalo Deer Brats along with all the fixing and drinks if they could possibly work with me on this issue. Guess who showed up today for my cookout today? A whole lot cheaper than getting a lawyer involved.

generally speaking, it doesn't do the trees any good to leave long stubs.

And when the utility that hired said UTT comes to check for contractor deficiencies, they’ll wind up coming back and cutting what they were getting paid to cut in the first place……lol.
Those pines are fine, but the other ones with the stubs look real leafy for cedars, but I’m no tree expert. If they’re something other than cedar, there’s gonna be 4 suckers shooting out to the line within a couple years instead of one big limb.

Here the power company can cut down any tree that may contact the line, which by the picture looks like all trees along there would be gone.

Not a bad idea to remove large limbs on a mature tree over a number of years. They'll start to form a collar and heal over better from my experience.

They look good plenty of clearance. We got a number of spots similar to your pictures and he just worked with on the and made them and us happy. We might have had to revisit those spots more often but I was always willing to work with them. It is a two way street and it doesn't have to be just black and white all the time.

I hope they keep their end of the deal.

That’s how they are here. After a bunch of nights repairing tear-downs I wanted every tree within 100 feet of our fiber and coax cut down.

I had the REA come through patrolling line when we had a lot of snow early. They drove a cat machine across some new alfalfa and called them and told them if it kills that new crop they would need to pay damages. They have cut trees up in the hills and leave all trees cut at ground there and never do any cleanup. I told them that will never happen again. I will sue them for for all damages and cleanup. They pretty much laughed at me. They have easements but they don't own it and they need to leave the land better then when they came on it.

I always preached that the crews to respect other land and work with them the best we can. This REA is terrible to work with on my place and no respect for the consumer. I'm not the only I have heard that from around here. They ever need a pull I will be sending them a huge bill and all costs involved. No friend of mine.

Safety must not factor in to that tree even if it is right way because they don't want to. It is all about what they want and don't care about the consumer. In a lot of cases.
