Paragraph 11. "I thought for sure his leg would need amputation or be badly broken. By sheer luck, the teeth of the trap missed his bone and he is OK,"

You guys using toothed traps in Utah, guessing this is going to be BS that didn’t happen for $1000.

This is the second time this lady had her dog caught, give me a break she is making this crap up.

It’s a link to a newspaper article. Not sure how that is construed a link to an anti trapping site. I think it’s pretty relevant for everyone, especially Utah trappers to know that there are people out there fishing for a problem to make a news headline.

That whole article is ridiculous. I doubt any sane person believes any of it. Might not even have caught a dog. Animal rights is a religion. The zealots who are true believers are already insane. They will believe anything.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

It happened before I got there, but I understand that it was stories like this that took down trapping on state and federal land in NM.

And, I agree. The article is ridiculous.

It says UDWR investigated and found more traps in the area which were legally set at the time, but that Layton has since made a policy against traps on city property. If there were actually traps set in that area and IF her dog was actually caught in a trap, then the trapper who set them made poor judgement in setting in an area populated by dog walkers, hikers, etc. Again, that is a big IF. A dead fox near a trap that was still set sounds kind of fishy to me.

The story has some ridiculous claims; however, the general public which has no idea about the developments made in traps and the regulation of their use, will believe the story. I would guess, that the dog in question was off leash. And some trapper, while being legal, had set traps adjacent to the public trail, an area that was prime for conflict. I mean who sets a trap where the general public can easily see a trapped animal anyway? That's just handing ammunition to a 'Karen' on a mission!

If we wish to retain the ability to trap, we all need to use common sense. Learn the lesson, just because it's legal doesn't make it right. And incidents such as this are sure fired ways to lose the ability to continue trapping.

I've seen a case where a woman intentionally led her dog into an area being trapped just for it to be caught. These antis will stop at absolutely nothing, including harming their own animals if they can justify it in their own twisted minds.

The sad thing is the undecided middle that we appeal to can't fathom that sort of deceit.

I knew the story was a lie as soon as I saw that there was a dead fox nearby
I guess the trap killed the fox spit it out and reset itself for the dog! She should have had her dog on a leash.

"We discourage traps being placed near public trails and high traffic areas, due to potential conflicts. We also encourage dogs to be leashed when recreating outdoors. If people have concerns about a trap they locate, they should call the Utah Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement to report it, so officers can verify the legality of the trap," Faith Heaton Jolley, spokeswoman for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, said in a statement.

They want you to call if you find a trap, so they can investigate the trapper and see if they can write him a ticket, but absolutely no mention that it is illegal to mess with said trap. Sounds right.
