It's a lot quieter here but quality threads.......that's for sure. Trapper Talk is almost like an "off topics" thread in other forums.

Appreciate the valid post Current. I can remember Kusko and several others who always had trapline threads. HFT AK is the only one I see. Wondering where they all went. I get it, with posts like Dirts why would anyone bother?

Well the journals were pictures of the their life on the trapline. I never paid much attention to them, except HFT's to see how much snow was to my east. It takes time to take pictures, post pictures and narrate the story. Then you have to answer all the questions or you appear rude. And some of those questions get down right bazaar. I think some people go through a faze where they want to share these daily events with people on the internut, and then they get over it. Then there is a risk to posting everything you do on the internut. BTW notice the heading is Wilderness Trapping and Living. Since I do both, all my post are valid posts.

Fish 222 isn’t currently trapping I believe Kusko isn’t either but not 100 💯 sure on that I quit posting because it got to much local attention looking at my lines when you work years to develop lines then share a season with the world next thing you know every other time you check someone has been down your trails you use to have to yourself makes a guy nervous And as previously mentioned it’s a lot of work trying to keep a journal updated I run 2 lines and am out on my snow machine every other day checking one or the other and skinning on the off days the rest of my life needs more time as it is

Unfortunately I'm waiting for a kidney transplant, maybe after I'll be able to get back out in the bush. From what I hear around the interior a lot of guys didn't get a lot of trapping in with the record long cold snap we had and then the dumps of snow.
Dog faced pony soldier and proud of it!

Been out trapping, but a terrible winter for it. Got some marten, but will be in the summer auction. Still going at it.

What do you mean by that Dirt? I know old trappers who can’t take constructive criticism or get insulted when they didn’t think of something themselves. But you can’t be one of them eh?…….lol

Some of the stuff from the Yukon, NT and BC translate to here pretty good. The other regions, not as well.

The reason that nobody posts here is not because people are not trapping. Some of us are catching piles of fur this year. The reason is because some guys put a lot of time uploading pictures and composing lengthy trapline reports only to get either no response from the forum or snarky comments from the old timers who can’t seem to find it in their hearts to be happy for younger guys doing good on their trap lines. Supercub, aren't you in Bethel? Is everyone you know or work with always super nice? Where do you find areas where 100% of the residents are friendly, nice, etc. If you're proud of your trapping activities, post them. I remember last seasons postings and they were impressive. You should realize that for everybody who responds to your postings there are 2 or 3 more who don't respond but are in total awe of what you have done. I did a few seasons trapping marten with my citabria. Lake hopping. Had ATA pres. Zarnke with me one time. It was dark the last half hour returning to Fairbanks. Starting snowing too. Most guys on here can't imagine what that was like. But you can! Don't expect perfection from imperfect people.

We were learning how we didn't know how to run our operations. I thought I was the only one. I like our ways. I started long before TM and even internet. Lots of trial and errors then to have implications to the negative never set well with me.To each his own.

I saw Hemo Korth when he came down to a convention in Michigan a few years ago. He did a wolf demo and kept stressing the these were “my” wolves where I live, yours might behave very differently……and he’s correct. But some of his info can translate to a coyote trapper in Arizona. The Alaskan Wolf Manual is another great book which holds true even in southern Manitoba. We have cold, snow, just different food at certain times of the year…….and unfortunately more people to deal with. Honestly, I’d think the reason there’s less activity is that the fellas that actually have an internet connection up there are way too busy to be posting stuff. Some might only post when they leave the shack and spend the summer in a more civilized place, and by that time there’s other stuff to do.
I know some trappers are on the Canadian forum that will read but never post again because of know it alls and getting criticism over their preferred techniques. Around here, I’d say only 25% of the trappers use any type of social media. Web pages would be the lowest, mostly YouTube and FB. The web forums are kinda “old school” to the <40 year olds.
Having said that, T4E posts sometimes and the wealth of knowledge is greatly appreciated. He’s helped me out more than once. I have no idea where he gets the energy from with his lifestyle.

T4E is super-human. I don't know how he does it all. By himself. I know where he traps, have flown over most of his areas, and just can't get my head around throwing a snowmachine into a 14' skiff and heading up or across or out the inlet or further, get to a beach, toss the machime out, grab buckets of bait, extra gas, and hit the trail. Might check 50 sets, thrn add 20 more. Then back to the beach, load the machine back in the boat, and do it again. Home after dark, start drying fur, eat, start skinning. And some of the best fur handling I have ever seen.
