Most trappers chop up oily fish, put in bucket with lid, let sit in the sun and dip off oil. I’ve been reading about people producing ~small quantities from cans of sardines and they heat up the mash on a stove or crockpot or hot plate. The oil is ready to be strained and used in a couple hours.

Internationally, people do it by heating smashed fish, so heating is being done. I’m just not sure of the quality of the oil (for trapping).

Does anyone on Tman heat their smash-mash on a hot plate, etc, to make fish oil?

If I was to experiment, would catch a few buckets of mud minnows,of which are abundant in my state, and also I suspect are oilier than others, and set those buckets in my greenhouse with the lid snapped down over a red rag…

I know a few that use carp meat. I don't know how they go about it but have thought about it also.

Let things sun render and rot and the oil rises to the top…burbot livers would be full of oil, not so much the white meat,IMO
