I use mineral oil for wiping down and light oiling , and mineral spirits for cleaning . Almost all the commercial gun oils use these for a base , then put in a few additives that do little , if anything.

depends what for
I favor Hornady one shot cleaner and dry lube for anything 22lr and pump shotguns
there are a lot of drying oils , clean your 870 or 500 and wait 6 months and it has a hitch in the slide , sticky at the fully open that slows your return to battery , that is dust and drying oil gums it up
the dry lube doesn't collect the powder residue like wet does on 22lr they are dirty guns.
CLP takes longer to get gummy but it does in time but by then it is probably time to clean again any way.
keeping the 10/22 and the MK1234 pistols happy hot or cold the dry lube does very well.
almost anything works , the question is for how long and in what conditions
22lr doesn't have enough extra to get past gumming up
the dry lube works cold and it works hot
different things need different lube also
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Rem oil lately,
Hoppes For years before and still do sometimes.
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Hobbie, I tried that Lucas oil and did not like it, it seemed to be really tacky. When I was out in the field everything stuck to my firearm. Do you seem to notice that happening while using it? A little goes a long way. I started using it because it’s the only thing that seems to keep the Fanchi 12 auto, cycling. Internal application only.

I thought everyone wiped down with this. A jar will last generations. We always had a wool rag and this in a bag. Rem oil for action but less is more. Careful with break cleaner and bluing. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/03/full-24446-287250-rig.jpg)
