Like many of you Robert Duvall died and I rewatched Lonesome Dove recently. Its nostalgic for me b/c I remember it being on regular TV when it premiered and watching it with my family one night a week when it came on. I saw something on FB this morning about it being based on a true story, which I knew, but I saw the actual headstones and thought those were neat enough to make a post about to share with you on here b/c I know several on here really enjoyed that movie too.

True Fact: "In 1867, Charles Goodnight fulfilled a deathbed promise to his partner, Oliver Loving, by transporting his body over 600 miles from Fort Sumner, New Mexico, to Weatherford, Texas, for burial. After Loving died from gangrene following an Indian attack, Goodnight had the body exhumed, placed in a tin coffin filled with charcoal, and transported back."

Supposedly Charlie aka "Chuck" is why it is called a "Chuck Wagon" b/c it was invented during this trip which is probably why it was seen so much in the movie.

My little place in the history of the movie "Lonesome Dove"... Back in the 80's I owned a muzzleloader/buckskinner business called Black Otter Trading Company. I sold a huge variety of stuff used at rendezvous, historical re-enactments etc. Jim from River junction Trading Company in Iowa contacted me and asked if I have a good stock of canvas that could be used for making dusters to be worn by the cowboys in the movie. Luckily, I did and we struck a deal. The rest is history...

I think I recall a tour company that sold trips along the Lonesome Dove route. Been a while.

Yes, good post OhioBoy. I saved the map of the old Goodnight Loving Trail. McMurtry's Lonesome Dove is a very good book.
I re-read it every few years. Good every time.

And for the haters, like many other people, he is a cousin of mine.

You can all check on Family Search to see if you are also related to them. American History is all of our family history. People tend to forget that. If we want to have a cohesive country and culture, we need for children to feel a part of our history. Otherwise they just feel like they are being forced to learn about people who have no relevance to them. History is more important to people when they can see how their family lived through it.

For the globalists to win, they need to break our connection to our past. They've been doing a good job of breaking our connections to the past. Grounding our children in our history, by teaching them it's familial importance to them, thwarts the globalist agenda.
