How short can you cut them. How much should I leave sticking out. Have had issues with water animals getting the chain on them.

When the MB550 came out, people had trouble with the chains hooking up on the spring post. Tim Caven said to bend them toward each other. I found cutting off all but a half inch stopped the chain snagging problem. Since I don’t 4-coil anything, getting rid of this extra steel fixed me right up.

If you ever decide to 4coil....you will regret cutting them off. Just bend them inward.

They do the job 2 coiled on drowners there 1.75 dukes

This! Right now I'm ordering springs to four coil some #3's and 4's. I'm so glad I didn't cut them.

I agree but I’m mostly chasing otter 1.75 with #2 music wire does the job the number three two coil does the job as well but sometimes they grab a little high
