I had thought that the b52 bombers had been retired from service..in this age of smart bombs and guided missles..
after our stealth bombers and other aircraft knocked out the remaining air defenses that Iran had… b52s were deployed and used.

Super heavy payloads…

I was just going to post something about this.

We have complete air superiority over there now. The BUFFs can come out and play.

Maybe some good old fashioned carpet bombing?

Na tons of guided j dams. Hiting many exact targets in a single mission with a few planes. Much efficiently.

From a speech yesterday:

Sec. of War Pete Hegseth: "The two most powerful air forces in the world will have complete control of Iranian skies... B-2s, B-52s, B-1s, predator drones, fighters controlling the skies, picking targets, death and destruction from the sky all day long."

I gotta laugh , the other day I read we used our B-one (The BONE) bombers deep into Iran. We sent middle aged (36yo) bombers that did the job with ease. I guessed that we had or were going to use our B-52's as well.

My grandpa BUFF can kick your butt.......... literally. laugh

What are the chances we get a B-29 or B-17 over there, just for old time's sake?

The BUFF is expected to stay in service until the mid 2030s as there are no other contenders that can carry the same payload. That and an extremely durable airframe that was built to take the sort of punishment flying unescorted over contested soviet airspace could dish out. It was originally built with guns, specifically a remote tail gun.

These days it can't compete in contested airspace so it's either standoff weapons like cruise missiles or we gain complete and total air superiority first.

B17s and the cosairs have to be my favorite type of aircraft… they just look absolutely cool!!
It’s amazing to hear the stories of the b17 coming home looking like a slice of Swiss cheese.

Had a very close family member that flew B-52's. Those Buff's could hammer the ground targets with heavy damage.

Thay have been trying to get rid of them for years but nothing comes close to what they can do on close ground support. Fast movers just are not over the target area long enough.

A-10s have already been used over there. Us CENTCOM released a list of equipment used a few days ago on initial strikes and it was on there

I saw that list also. Curious as to how the A-10s were utilized.

My guess is the loitering ability of the A10 gives them time to better whack the mobile launcher moles as they break cover....

This video from our Department of War does an excellent job covering how we are bombing Iran, after gaining complete control of their air space. To quote Pete Hegseth, "They are toast."

There are some fantastic lines in the address from Pete Hegseth, making it well worth the watch.

They should be using the van portable radars along the coat of the gulf to monitor those low and slow drones hitting our embassies and then vector in the A10s to shoot them down instead of million dollar misses for low dollar drones.
