After my 2nd season of trapping, I am absolutely hooked and I love it. Although I have a lot of other hobbies that I focus on outside of trapping season here in PA, I want to keep some focus on trapping in preparation for next year.
What types of things do you do for trapping during the off-season to prepare for next season?

There's lots to do.

Trap clean and prep
Make bait
Make waxed dirt
Secure permissions
Scout territory
Go to conventions
Vechile maintenance

If you’re in a decent WMU, you can trap beaver till the end of March.
Sift and dry peat moss.
Scouting…Location will catch more fur than any lure, bait, or set.

Testing lure and bait. You will learn a lot more than just what baits and lures are good.

Traps aways need something done to them, cleaned.
Bait making, waxed sand needs made.
And I gotta re side the trap shed this year. Gonna do it with some old
reclaim wind break fence.

And got a couple old chevy pickups I'm working on.
That should keep me going till October. Lol

Let me sugar coat this

Attention to detail will make a good trapper great.

Clean skulls and other bones I put away. Going to give waxing some dirt a try for the first time. Take in a convention or two.

I have several areas that I'm active in which is trapping related. I will spend a lot of time prepping my gear for the next season, and I spend countless hours studying everything I can on not only trapping but the animals I trap. I have an extensive library.

I do research with various lures, baits, urines, sets in the off season and use this data in not only teaching but on my trapline. I have volumes of data.

I teach trapping with LDWF/LTAHA. I spend a lot of time hands on with traps year round in a teaching environment, which makes me a better trapper.

I teach trapping to veterans, hosting a couple of trapping events.

I do off season trapping for coyotes and beavers.

I'm VP of the Louisiana Trappers and Alligator Hunters Association.

Traps all need cleaned up, inspected, repaired, etc. I'm always looking for coon trails and stopping to look for tracks at bridges.

Like snow says,
Repairs & prep boxes, floats, cable anchors, replace anchor cables
Make snares,
Trail extensions and maintenance
CONVENTIONS!!! You can do them on the cheap and camp usually
Study
Cut & split firewood
Squeeze all this in with working overtime and fulfilling ADC obligations and little short vacations in the western US & Provinces.
After the season it really gets busy……lol
